Membership in the Occupational Hygiene Association of Ontario is open to anyone interested in the fields of occupational hygiene or occupational health and safety. Membership Application Form (PDF)

Membership Benefits and Activities
Professional
Membership in the Association contributes towards professional growth and recognition. It provides the opportunity for interaction with professional Occupational Hygienists from government, industry, labour and colleagues in other health and safety fields.
Insurance
The Association offers a variety of health care insurance packages through the AIL Canada.
Educational
Educational symposia on pertinent issues are held a minimum of twice per year. OHAO also sponsors conferences, workshops and regional dinner meetings. Reduced registration fees are offered to members. For a complete listing of upcoming events, go to the Events page.
Newsletter
All members receive the OHAO newsletter, "OH Forum" containing up-to-date information on Association activities and occupational health and safety, including notices of educational workshops, conferences, symposia and regulatory developments. Samples of the latest issues of "OH Forum" are available on-line.
Committees
Participation in Association activities is encouraged and all members are urged to get involved by serving on committees and task forces. For more information, go to the Committees page.
Membership Categories
Full Member
In order to be accepted as a Full Member, the applicant must have a total of six years combined post-secondary education and work experience in occupational hygiene.
Associate Member
In order to be accepted as an Associate Member, the applicant must meet either of the following criteria:
- a combined post-secondary education and work experience of six years, but the work experience consists of continuing practice of occupational hygiene for less than the majority but more than one quarter of the applicant's time.
- less than six years combined post-secondary education and work experience of six years, but the work experience consists of continuing practice of occupational hygiene for the majority of the applicant's time.
Affiliate Member
Affiliate membership is open to any person who has an interest in occupational hygiene and is engaged in any aspect of the field of occupational health and safety but does not qualify for Full or Associate membership.
Student Member
Student membership is open to any person who has an interest in occupational hygiene and is registered full time in an occupational hygiene, environmental, health or safety related program at a post-secondary institution in Canada.
Definitions
Occupational Hygiene
Occupational Hygiene is a science and art devoted to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of those environmental factors or stressors arising in or from the workplace which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency amongst workers or among the citizens of the community.
